LA County Reports 5 New COVID-19 Deaths, 248 New Cases; Walk-in vaccinations will start tomorrow – Deadline

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported 5 new deaths from COVID-19 and 248 new positive cases today.

The number of new cases and deaths will likely reflect the reporting delays over the weekend, the Los Angeles Department of Public Health said.

To date, the county has recorded a total of 23,999 deaths and 1,235,651 cases. Today’s positivity rate is 0.5%, the lowest rate in a week.

At the time of the report, 400 people are currently hospitalized with coronavirus.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti announced today that appointments would no longer be necessary to obtain a COVID-19 vaccine at any managed site in the city as of Monday.

“We are at a critical time in our fight to end this pandemic, and our city will continue to do everything possible to break down barriers to access to vaccines and deliver doses directly to all Angelenos,” Garcetti said. in a press release.

LA County Reports 20 New Covid-19 Deaths and 415 New Positive Cases

The move comes a week after the city stopped requiring appointments for some walk-in and mobile locations. Walk-in options are now available at city drive-in sites like Dodger Stadium, although people can. register in advance if wanted.

COVID-19 vaccines are currently available at various county-run and community walk-in sites, for all people 16 years of age and older who live or work in the county. Several days ago, LA County fell into the yellow (or least restrictive) level of California’s plan to reopen.

On Saturday, Barbara Ferrer, director of public health, acknowledged that “we continue to see a decrease in cases, hospitalizations and deaths”, and called on the public to celebrate Mother’s Day as safely as possible.
