The current pandemic situation is also deteriorating for new films struggling to find footsteps. There were two new Hindi versions, Koi Jaane Na and Flight, and neither could really do much for them on day one.

Koi Jaane Na came out with minimal promotion and the only thing that was talked about was Aamir Khan-Eli AvrRam’s song “Har Funn Maula” which is available online anyway. It couldn’t really save this weirdly told film which had been stuck for a while and has now arrived without much fanfare. The Kunal Kapoor and Amyra Dastur star also didn’t find much love from critics and turned out to be a complete no-show.

Flight was promoted with the directors (Mohit Chaddha as actor-producer and Suraj Joshi as director) doing their part to make the film in the news. The trailer was also interesting, and the reviews that came across were also decent to good, which pretty much qualifies it as the top-rated release of the week. However, an indie film like this needs a boost from audiences and when they just don’t come out of fear of the current pandemic it becomes harder to get word of mouth.

For now, the combined collections of the first day of the two films are less than 50 lakhs, although we can at least expect Flight to show some improvement for the remainder of the weekend.

* Estimates. Final figures expected.

To note: All collections according to production and distribution sources
