The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday refused to stay proceedings against actress Kangana Ranaut by a First Class Judicial Magistrate (JMF) in Tumkur over his derogatory allegations against farmers amid protests. The court ordered the judicial police station (Kyathasandra) to register the FIR against Kangana Ranaut for his remarks of October 9, 2020.

The complaint against Kangana Ranaut was filed by lawyer Ramesh Naik L under article 156 (3) of the Code of Criminal Procedure. He alleged that Kangana Ranaut posted derogatory remarks against farmers on his Twitter account ‘@KanganaTeam’ on September 21, 2020. The tweet read: “People who spread misinformation and rumors about CAA that caused riots are the same people who are now spreading the disinformation about the Farmers Bill and the terror in the country, they are terrorists. You know what I said very well, but you just like to spread misinformation. “

Kangana Ranaut had asked the High Court of Karnataka to quash the FIR against her. His lawyer Rizwan Siddiquee appeared in court to stay the proceedings. According to Live Law India, the court responded by saying, “First you comply with the office’s objection, then only we can review your submissions.”

Judge HP Sandesh gave the petitioner one week to comply with the office’s opposition. The next hearing will take place on March 18.
