Johnny Depp continues to use his Hollywood Vampire songwriting as therapy amid his bitter legal battles over his separation from ex-wife Amber Heard, according to his bandmate Alice Cooper.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star was recently denied an appeal in his UK libel lawsuit after opposing editors of The Sun calling him a ‘wife drummer’, over Heard’s previous allegations of domestic violence.
Depp has vehemently denied the allegations and is also suing actress Aquaman in a separate US court case, accusing her of libel for referring to herself as a victim of domestic violence in a Washington Post article.
Cooper previously revealed that Depp channeled his “anger” at the messy situation in his work with the Hollywood Vampires, with songs from the rock supergroup’s 2019 album Rise filled with his “venom,” and their next release seems to be heading in a similar creative direction.
Cooper told the Daily Beast, “I know Johnny was writing all last year, when this whole thing (libel lawsuit) was going on with him.
“But you know, that won’t stop him from coming home and writing. In fact, it probably helped. I expect some pretty interesting songs. “
And despite his personal woes, Depp is eager to hit the road when he’s safe enough to do so: “There’s no drama (with his work in the band),” Cooper insisted.
“(Depp) said, ‘Hey, this is another world. It has nothing to do with what I do in the group. He said: “ I can’t wait to get back on stage. “He’s one of my best friends.
Cooper is also looking forward to reuniting in concert with Depp and his teammate Joe Perry, having recently had to cancel their summer European tour due to COVID-19 issues: “It will be great when we all get together,” smiles. he.
“You know, what’s crazy about this group is you have eight guys in the group and you have three alpha males leading it, but there was never a single argument. No one has ever made their voice heard to anyone in this group. It’s really cool. “(MT / BAN / LOT)
