President Joe Biden said in an interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos that New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo should resign if an investigation confirms allegations of sexual harassment.
Biden has stopped calling on Cuomo to step down immediately, which other Democrats, like Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, said should happen.
“If the investigation confirms the women’s claims, should he resign?” Stephanopoulos asked Biden.
“Yes,” Biden said, adding, “I think he’ll probably end up being sued too.”
Seven women have made allegations against Cuomo, while state attorney general Letitia James has launched an investigation. Cuomo denies the allegations and calls for the investigation to be concluded.
By ABC News, Biden told Stephanopoulos that “it takes a lot of courage to come forward. So the presumption is that they should be taken seriously. And that should be studied. And that’s what’s going on now.
The interview will be broadcast on Hello america Wednesday.
Biden also urged migrants and unaccompanied minors not to travel to the southern U.S. border as his administration grapples with a wave.
“Don’t leave your town, city or community,” Biden said.
Republicans blamed Biden for the border situation, saying it was due to more lax immigration policies.
But Biden said that “the idea that Joe Biden said, ‘Come on’ – because I heard the other day they’re coming because they know I’m a nice guy … Here’s the case, they are not. “
