Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson directing ‘Spider-Verse’ sequel – Deadline

Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers and Justin K. Thompson direct the sequel to Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse, The fidgetcube confirmed. The film is set to hit theaters on October 7, 2022.

While the team have worked hard on the project from the start, they’ve now officially come on board, joining returning producers Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Christina Steinberg, and the new co-producer Alonzo Ruvalcaba.

“The crew behind… Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse set such a ridiculously high bar, and we are honored to take on the challenge of charting the next chapter in Miles Morales’ story, ”the directors said in a joint statement. “We can’t wait to surprise fans with the new wild adventure in which we send Miles with his friends old and new!

“We are very lucky to have Joaquim, Justin and Kemp on the Spider-Verse Added scriptwriters Lord and Miller. “They are all superheroes at what they do and each brings a unique sensibility to the ‘Spider-Verse’.”

Debut in 2018, Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse marked the big-screen debut of Miles Morales – an Afro-Latino teenager in the spidey costume, in a Marvel Multiverse – who won the Oscar for Best Animated Feature. The highly anticipated sequel will be written by Lord, Miller and David Callaham. Original director Peter Ramsey is on board as executive producer, along with Aditya Sood.

Dos Santos has previously directed, produced and scripted numerous animated series including The legend of Korra and Avatar: The Last Airbender (Nickelodeon), Voltron: legendary defender (DreamWorks Animation), Unlimited Justice League and Teen Titans (Warner Bros.). He started his career at Sony Pictures Television 20 years ago, working on animated series such as Roughneck: The Chronicles of the Starship Troopers and Men in Black: the series.

Golden Globe Award-winning and Oscar-nominated screenwriter, playwright, producer and director, Powers recently wrote Regina King’s feature debut, One night in Miami, which was an adaptation of his acclaimed play, also co-directing and writing on the nominee for Best Animated Feature from Disney / Pixar, Soul. Previously Powers wrote for the CBS All Access series (now Paramount +), Star Trek: Discovery.

Thompson was recently the production designer for the original Spider-Verse film, winning an Annie Award for her work, as well as an Art Directors Guild Award nomination. Previously, he designed the “ animations ” for Sony Pictures Cloudy with a chance of meatballs and its sequel. Prior to working at Sony, Thompson worked at the Orphanage Animation Studios, the Jim Henson Company, and Lucasfilm Animation.

The variety was the first to break Spider-Verse new.
