ITV is increasing the number of hidden entertainment shows. Following the meteoric success of The masked singer in the UK, the commercial broadcaster has ordered The masked dancer.
Bandicoot Scotland will be making a seven-part series based on the late spring spinoff show, which means it will help fill a giant England has an incredible talentshaped like a hole in ITV’s schedule after dropping out of the Simon Cowell talent series this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Twelve celebrities will perform unique dances, covered head-to-toe in extravagant and colorful costumes and masks, leaving spectators and a panel of stars to guess their identities.
Those guessing in the studio will include Jonathan Ross, Mo Gilligan, and Davina McCall, who are already on The masked singer. They will be joined by Come strictly dance star Oti Mabuse. Comedian Joel Dommett hosts.
The masked dancer was commissioned by Katie Rawcliffe, Head of Entertainment at ITV, and Commissioner Joe Mace. The series will be produced by Bandicoot (part of the Argonon Group) and the executive producers are Derek McLean, Daniel Nettleton and Claire Horton.
“The masked singer is a huge hit for ITV and our viewers can’t get enough of this colorful guessing game. The Masked Dancer will build on this success and create a new format that will be just as fun and entertaining for our viewers, ”said Rawcliffe.
The masked dancer started life as a popular segment on The Ellen Show before Fox teamed up with DeGeneres to produce a full-fledged version of the format. The original Masked singer show was created by MBC from Korea.
