Actress Kate Winslet says Hollywood strives to make women feel safe.
“What changes in a way that will be absolutely sustainable is the way women’s voices are received. There is a space that has been created for a younger generation that is going to be safe, ”Winslet told The Hollywood Reporter while discussing the impact of the #MeToo movement on their segment of the Actress Roundtable.
She continued, “My daughter is 20 years old and she just started in the industry about a year and a half ago. And what’s wonderful for me, as a mom, is just watching her have a courage of conviction and self-confidence that is unwavering as she enters a time when we are ridding these girls of shit.
Kate Winslet added, “These girls are going to change the world, and they’re going to be strong, and they’re going to be powerful, and they’re going to be awesome. And this is because we are removing all the bad things for them and all they will know is to use their voice in a positive and powerful way, to lead with compassion, to be role models and strong friends. . And that is for me the most important thing that has changed. “
The actress believes this time around it’s about women supporting women.
“This is the decade of women defending and supporting other women without judgment. It’s happening right now, and it’s a result of the united mass wave that has emerged from #MeToo. We have all come together, everyone is holding hands and walking in the same direction, ”she said.
“To me, this is the most exciting thing that comes out of the horror of the past five years and of these amazing women coming forward and sharing their painful and horrific stories, and the horrible Harvey Weinstein. Now is the time to lead in a different way. Young women are able to lead with courage – in a way that I certainly didn’t have, that sense of courage and camaraderie with my peers, in a way that I think #MeToo did for this generation of women, ”she added.
