Actor Suniel Shetty has been heavily trolled after his recent tweet about the ongoing farmer protests. Speaking of people who assumed he was against farmers, he says such behavior on social media is choking him.
Suniel had tweeted after international public figures such as Rihanna and Greta Thunberg published information about the farmers’ protests, drawing international attention to the matter. His tweet read: “We always have to have a big picture, because there is nothing more dangerous than a half-truth. #IndiaTogether #IndiaAgainstPropaganda. “
Opening up on the adverse reaction to the tweet, Suniel Shetty, 59, told IANS: “The story that I’m against farmers is shit. It hurt me when they said “he’s against the farmers”. If I could, I would probably catch all of them. There are a lot of emotions. I want to tell them that we are talking about our country, our home, our families.
“My ancestors were farmers, I come from a small town called Mulki in Mangalore that I visit four times a year even today, and 70% of it is a farm. Second, I am an Indian. It’s always been like that and my films say it. People say you are crushing other countries. It doesn’t matter to me as long as India is doing well. This is who I am, ”adds Suniel Shetty.
As soon as Suniel and other public figures posted about the farmers protest, many theories began to tour. Social media followers tweeted at the request of some political outfits.
“I am not affiliated with any political party. I say what I believe in. I am a proud Mumbaikar and I am proud of the fact that my Chief Minister and others have handled the pandemic well. What matters to me is that people are doing good. I campaigned for friends who belong to various political parties, but I campaigned for people. I did not campaign for a party. I never take the names of the parties. I campaigned for individuals. I believe right now India is about to get back to normal and I’m sticking with that, ”Suniel Shetty says.
“I’m an actor. If I say something I’m hammered, if I don’t say something I’m hammered. So what do I do? I’m a dad. My kids are threatened on Twitter. Why? What wrong have I done? I say, settle it out of court like other people who care about farmers say, “he added.
“This is choking me, why is it (the cyber world) so toxic?” Why are people so miserable? We don’t have a program. If India loses, it’s my team. If he wins, of course I will congratulate him. What is your problem? How to see my India? Yes there are differences but the same farmer who was stopped by security feeds them as well. This is how I see my India, ”he said, opening at an event of Zeco’s O2Cure, where he announced his collaboration with the brand that provides air purification solutions.
