Greenlight project always fun. Maybe Issa Rae can help make it inclusive too.
Good news, movie fans, Greenlight project comes back to television. Issa Rae will be the show’s executive producer and will play a prominent role as the winner’s mentor as he directs his film.
Jennifer O’Connell, executive vice president, nonfiction and live action family, told HBO Max Deadline“We at HBO Max have made it our business to create a platform for diverse young talents. Issa is uniquely competent in this area and we are excited to work with her and Miramax as a promising group of filmmakers inspired and challenged with their greatest opportunity to date. ”
Greenlight project has been through some crazy times. It was originally on HBO and then on Bravo and then back on HBO before it was canceled in 2016. It’s always been a fun dramatic series where viewers can see the ups and downs of filmmaking. One of the reasons for the show is dealing with diversity. We only had all-white men moving, and not all of them made money at the box office.
The pressure will be off those numbers this final season as the film debuts on HBO Max, but hopefully adding Rae opens up the competition from different angles.
Marc Helwig, Head of Worldwide Television, Miramax, told Deadline: “With the relaunch of the icon Greenlight project With the brilliant edition of Issa Rae and HBO Max, we continue our efforts to tear down the Miramax library and create exciting, groundbreaking new content, as well as creating opportunities for a new generation of innovative voices. ”
