Interview with Phil Keoghan and Louise Keoghan in “ Tough As Nails ” – Contenders TV – Deadline

With As hard as nails, Phil and Louise Keoghan hoped to honor the working class people whose contributions to American society are too often overlooked.

“Most of my family [is] working class, ”said co-creator, executive producer and host Phil Keoghan, speaking during a panel at Deadline’s Contenders Television virtual event: Documentary + Unscripted Awards-season. “So when I heard people make derogatory comments about trades people or working class people, it always got on my nerves. This show is truly a way to honor the hard working people who see the calluses on their hands as a badge of honor and who make the country run.

Co-created and produced by Louise Keoghan, the CBS reality contest series features everyday Americans competing in challenges on construction sites that test their strength, endurance, life skills, and mental endurance. Of course, the show’s focus seems more timely than ever given the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on American workers.

While season 2 of As hard as nails was shot, with a natural degree of concern, in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, the series was recently renewed for season 3 and season 4. And with the cast underway for the third round, Louise Keoghan said the atmosphere between talents is entirely different from what it had been in the recent past.

“What we are seeing is this feeling of optimism and enthusiasm, of building the country and new horizons,” she said. “So the point is to bring that to the public.”
