Indie wrestling drama ‘Heels’ sets series start date on Starz – Deadline

The world of independent wrestling is the setting for the new original drama series Starz Heels, who released their official trailer and key art today.

The series airs Sunday, August 15 on all Starz platforms, including 9 p.m. ET / PT on Starz in the US and Canada. It will be broadcast day in and day out internationally on the premium streaming platform StarzPlay across its entire footprint in Europe, Latin America and Japan.

Written and Created by EP Michael Waldron (Loki, the next Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness) with EP Mike O’Malley (Shameless, remorse of the survivor) as a showrunner, Heels stars Stephen Amell (Arrow) like Jack Spade, with Alexander Ludwig (The Hunger Games, Vikings) playing his younger brother, Ace. Peter Segal (Get smart, 50 first dates, Tommy boy, Shameless), which directs several episodes, also serves as an EP.

Heels is a story of men and women chasing their dreams in the world of pro wrestling in small towns. Set in a tight-knit Georgian community, it follows a promotion of family wrestling, as two brothers and rivals fight for their late father’s legacy.

In the ring someone has to play the right guy and someone has to play their enemy, the heel. But in the real world, these characters can be hard to get along with – or hard to leave behind.

The drama series also stars Alison Luff as Staci Spade, Jack’s wife who learns she has to deal with the emotional stakes her in-laws have invested in their wrestling goals and the demands that this places on her. his family; Mary McCormack as Willie Day, Jack’s business partner and the logistics brains behind the local wrestling organization; Kelli Berglund as Crystal Tyler, Ace’s valet and sweetheart; Allen Maldonado as Rooster Robbins, one of the best wrestlers on the tour who always has something to prove and still supports him; two-time Super Bowl champion James Harrison as Apocalypse, a fellow wrestler who has worked for decades and has no illusions of fame or glory; and Chris Bauer as Wild Bill Hancock, a former larger-than-life wrestling star who is now a top professional wrestling scout.

With Waldron, O’Malley and Segal, Julie Yorn of LBI Entertainment (Hell or high water, White Boy Rick, The Dirt), Chris Donnelly and Patrick Walmsley will also be EPs. Heels is produced by Lionsgate TV for Starz in association with Paramount Television Studios.

Senior Vice President of Original Programming Samantha Offsay Nissen and Director of Original Programming Alex Alberts are the executives overseeing Heels on behalf of Starz. Director of Original Programming Jade-Addon Hall is the overseeing executive Heels on behalf of Lionsgate.
