Serena Williams is “so proud” of her friend Duchess Meghan. The tennis star praised the Duchess of Sussex for being so strong after Meghan discussed the racism she experienced, being pregnant with her baby girl and her own dark thoughts as she sailed the royal life in the revealing Oprah Winfrey interview.
Captioning the post, Serena wrote, “I’m so proud of you for your courage. I know it’s never easy. You are strong – you and Harry. I love you. I love you. Your friend S. (sic) »
And in a longer response, Serena paid tribute to the Duchess of Sussex for speaking with ’empathy and compassion’ and praised her for ‘teaching’ her ‘what it is to be noble’ every day.
She shared on Instagram: “Meghan Markle, my selfless friend, lives her life – and leads by example – with empathy and compassion. She teaches me every day what it means to be truly noble. Her words illustrate the pain and cruelty she experienced. I know firsthand that sexist and racist institutions and media use to defame women and people of color downplay, break us down and demonize us. We must recognize our obligation and speak out against malicious and unfounded gossip and tabloid journalism.
“The mental health consequences of systemic oppression and victimization are devastating, isolating and too often deadly. I want Meghan’s daughter, my daughter and your daughter to live in a respectful society. Keep in mind the fruit of the spirit, which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, meekness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.
In the interview, Duchess Meghan – who was joined by her husband Prince Harry – admitted that she was considering suicide in a careful public scrutiny of her relationship and role in the Royal Family. (SVB // DMC).
