Actress Shriya Pilgaonkar says the industry must work to eliminate gender-based pay disparities. Shriya, who will be seen in the movie “Haathi Mere Saathi”, says she has heard actresses discuss how male stars are often paid as much as the entire budget of a heroine movie!
“I’ve heard conversations from the biggest leading actresses about how their entire movie’s budget has been a male actor’s salary,” she told IANS.
Shriya Pilgaonkar says that while you don’t know how much your co-actor is making, you can guess based on the signs of progress in the film.
“I don’t know how much my co-actors are getting but you have an idea. You know how the negotiations go. On a personal level, I made sure I got the best deal in my capacity, ”says Shriya Pilgaonkar.
The actress says it’s important to stand up for yourself. “I don’t know how something like this (can change). Maybe as people take a stand, maybe things will improve, ”she said.
Shriya Pilgaonkar adds, “We have to understand on a personal level that if we don’t value ourselves, no one else will.”
Shriya has been seen in films such as “House Arrest” and “Fan” and shows such as “The Gone Game”, “Crackdown”, “Beecham House” and “Mirzapur”.
