Filmmaker Mahesh Manjrekar does not support the idea of censoring OTT content. At the same time, he believes that filmmakers should be responsible and not take advantage of the lack of censorship in the digital space.

Manjrekar’s upcoming 1962 webseries: War in the Hills, is a 10-episode war drama that offers a glimpse into the lives of soldiers who resisted Chinese troops, devoting their lives to the security of the nation.

“I think we should be very specific and careful about what we want to show. I have no worries because my series is one that the whole family can sit down and watch together without feeling uncomfortable. But I think we should be a little more responsible for what we show. Yes, I would hate to see the censorship on OTT content, but there are people who really benefit from it, ”Mahesh Manjrekar told IANS.

Mahesh Manjrekar also believes that OTT platforms should not be a cause for insecurity for cinemas as the two can easily coexist. “It’s been an argument for years now. These can easily exist together. Nothing can replace movie theaters. This debate also happened in the past when television started to gain popularity. I don’t see the cinema suffering from OTT. We must not lose our sleep in thinking that OTT will end the future of cinemas, it will not be, ”he said.

Opening on his series, Mahesh Manjrekar shared, “The series is a fictional version of the 1962 war. However, more than the war, we focused on the human side of the soldiers. Sometimes we may think that a soldier’s duty is to protect us and that he has no emotion, but he does. He is vulnerable and close to his family like us. But what makes him different from us is the fact that he has the will to die so that we are safe. I tried to look at the emotional side of all these soldiers who fought this war.

The series was shot in Ladakh under extreme weather conditions. Recalling his shooting experience, Manjrekar said: “Yes, it was difficult to shoot on the pitch. There was a lot of physical activity involved so we had to acclimatize to that condition and start shooting. But it was fun because everyone was so responsible for bringing this chapter of the story to the public!

Mahesh Manjrekar’s webseries has an ensemble cast featuring Abhay Deol, Akash Thosar, Sumeet Vyas, Rohan Gandotra, Annup Soni, Meiyang Chang, Mahie Gill, Rochelle Rao and Hemal Ingle in key roles. It will air on Disney + Hotstar VIP and Disney + Hotstar Premium starting February 26.
