Thomas Markle has “never stopped loving” his daughter, Duchess Meghan Markle. The Duchess of Sussex’s father has appeared for the first time since her interview with Prince Harry – in which she admitted she felt ‘betrayed’ by her father for speaking to the press about her – and he has insisted that he would be “available” to her at all times.
Speaking about his daughter on Good Morning Britain on Tuesday (09 March 21), Thomas said: “I am available whenever we can get together, would love to see each other. I never stopped loving my daughter, I don’t always agree with the things my kids do but I keep loving my kids… I’m still her dad.
And Thomas insisted he was only speaking publicly because he hadn’t heard of the Sussexes.
“When they say I’m lying and taking advantage of the press… if I don’t hear from them in 30 days, I’ll do a press story,” he added. “I would love to hear them. When they start talking to me, I’ll stop talking to the press. I’m sorry for what I did, it was a long time ago, I certainly tried to make up for it. The stories in the newspaper each time are because I haven’t heard from you.
The 76-year-old – who was married to Doria Ragland, Meghan’s mother, until 1987 – also admitted he had not spoken to his daughter for four years.
“It’s actually the first time I’ve heard him speak in about four years, the last time we spoke – we actually texted each other – I was in the hospital after a heart attack. I had to tell them that I couldn’t come to the wedding. At that point, we pretty much said goodbye, ”he sighed.
And Thomas also feels he has been “left dry” without support for himself or his family.
“We were attacked by the press every day, no one was there to take care of us, no one took care of us. Nobody helped us, ”he said. “Then I saw a headline saying they were recommending Harry and Meghan someone come and help me, which they denied. I was left to dry. I also said that we all made mistakes. (SVB / BAN / DMC)
