Resolutions can get pretty confusing as companies quickly release new camera models. Nicholson explains how to get as close as possible to a real eye when shooting in 12K.
Plus, in post-production you have a lot more freedom to scale and edit without losing resolution. It’s a very flexible resolution and an exciting new tool for cinematographers.
The team placed four different 12K Blackmagic cameras on opposite sides of a moving train. They used 8-15mm Canon lenses at 12mm with 800 ISO as settings.
The goal was to get footage from every side and have a full 360 degree view. They could do this by running each of the cameras at the same time with exactly the same settings.
After capturing the necessary footage, they took it back and uploaded it to DaVinci Resolve. It’s a seamless transition and allowed them to quickly color correct and match the footage.
Once this process is complete, you can now project it onto a screen and try a “throughview process” also known as virtual production.
As Nicholson keeps mentioning in the video, resolution is really important. Especially when you’re working on such a high level project that has a lot at stake. You want to have as much information as possible about your footage.
This makes life in post production much easier for everyone and can save you from unwanted mistakes.
Technology is advancing rapidly and Blackmagic cameras, combined with their software, are breaking down many barriers for filmmakers.
