George RR Martin, with A song of ice and fire The saga spawned HBO’s massive success Game of thrones and a series of planned spinoffs, signed a five-year global deal with the premium network and its streaming sibling HBO Max.
The pact announced Friday is the eight-figure pact under which Martin will develop content for HBO and HBO Max. He had been on a global contract with HBO since 2013.
Martin is currently co-creator and executive producer of the upcoming Had prequel Dragon house, that of several series in development in the growing franchise. It will also produce Who is afraid of death and Road markers, both in development at HBO.
The cable and premium streamer owned by WarnerMedia have pledged to “go deep into the realm of Game of Thrones with George,” an insider told Deadline.
Martin is replaced by WME, Christine Cuddy and Vince Gerardis.
The deal was first revealed today by THR.
