Born Joseph Vijay Chandrasekhar, Thalapathy Vijay is one of the main players in the Tamil film industry. Throughout his career he has worked in several romantic and action movies that we can watch over and over again.

Today we bring you some of his best damakerdaar performances that are sure to make you feel energized and drive all the Monday blues before they can even form. From Pokkiri & Theri to Thuppakki & Master, check out the Thalapthy Vijay movies that made our list.


Released in 2007, Pokkiri plays Vijay as Thamizh, a violent thug who turns out to be an IPS undercover office trying to root out corruption in the country. Directed by Prabhu Deva, the film is based on the Telugu film Pokiri. He’s a healthy artist filled with iconic punchlines, humor, great actors, and a plot with a seethi-worthy twist.

Also starring Asin Thottumkal as the love interest of Thalapathy and Prakash Raj as Ali Bhai – the antagonist, the film earned nearly Rs 44 crore.


Directed by AR Murugadoss, Kaththi was released in 2014 and is an action thriller in which Vijay plays two roles. While one character is that of an escaped prisoner, Kathiresan, the other is the absolute opposite of a civilian named Jeeva. This fast-paced artist sees Kathiresan adopt the identity of Jeeva after her demise and soon begin to reform herself. His role of the two characters is sure to keep you hooked from the moment he is seen on screen.

Also starring Samantha Akkineni and Neil Nitin Mukesh in important roles, the Thalapathy star has collected over Rs 130 crore at the box office.


In this 2016 action thriller, the actor tried out both roles – DCP Vijay Kumar and a baker named Joseph Kuruvilla. Director Atlee follows his dreaded cop journey of living a low-key, action-free life with his daughter, then resuming his cop identity (only for the criminal, not the audience) to eradicate evil.

You are sure to fall in love with him – if you aren’t already.

Also starring Amy Jackson, Samantha Ruth Prabhu, Rajendran, J. Mahendran and more, this Thalapathy star earned over Rs 160 crore at the box office.


Released in 2004, this romantic action thriller, director Dharani, is a remake of the Telugu hit, Okkadu and has a unique story. He follows a kabaddi player, Velu, who saves Dhanalakshmi (Trisha) from the grip of a notorious leader, Muthupandi (Prakash Raj), who insists on marrying him by force.

This artist is the perfect blend of a captivating storyline, beautiful music, action sequences and incredible action. Thalapathy’s star film became the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2004.


Released in 2012, this director of AR Murugadoss introduces Vijay as Jagadish Dhanapal, an Indian army captain who sets out to decimate a terrorist sleeper cell that plans to ravage the nation. Thuppakki has a strong history and is sure to evoke feelings of patriotism in you.

With powerful performances, fast-paced action sequences, and a thrilling script, you are sure to fall in love. The film then collected Rs 130 crore at the box office.

And finally, his latest release, Master

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, this 2021 action thriller was the most anticipated film during the coronavirus era. Vijay Sethupathi also plays the role of Bhavani, a notorious gangster; he saw Vijay try out the role of John “JD” Durairaj, a university professor who embarks on a mission to reform detainees at the juvenile detention center.

Also starring Malavika Mohanan, Arjun Das and many more, the film grossed Rs 242.5 crore at the box office.
