‘For Life’ ‘Call Your Mother’ Stars Respond to ABC Cancellations – Deadline

ABC placed five titles on the chopping block Friday. Among the five were Kyra Sedgwick-star Call your mother and the legal drama at the front of Nicholas Pinnock For life.

The two stars shared their reactions on social media on Friday after the news.

Sedgwick broke the news that the sitcom, by Kari Lizer, will not be returning to ABC for a second season on Twitter. In the same tweet, she thanked the show’s fan base and alerted them that the next episode would be the last.

“You’ve been so wonderful getting online every week, or every two weeks, or every week,” she said. “The deployment was crazy!”

Written and executive produced by The New Adventures of Old Christine creator Lizer, Call your mother focuses on an empty nestled mum, Jean Raines (Sedgwick), who wonders how she ended up alone as her children live their best lives thousands of miles away. She decides her place is with her family, and as she reinserts herself into their lives, her children realize that they might actually need her more than they thought.

The family sitcom also featured Joey Bragg, Rachel Sennott, Austin Crute, and Emma Caymares.

Pinnock reacted to the show’s cancellation by touting the hope of a new home. Although he spoke of the disappointment expressed by some fans, he said he should still have some optimism.

“… For those who are disappointed, there is hope,” he tweeted.

The actor, who appeared alongside Joy Bryant, Ty Harris, Indira Varma in the legal drama, spoke of co-producer Sony Pictures TV’s intentions to acquire the series from other buyers, including Hulu.

For life is inspired by the life of Isaac Wright Jr. who was wrongly convicted as a drug kingpin but had his conviction overturned while in prison and became a licensed lawyer. It is a fictional legal and family drama about an imprisoned man, Aaron Wallace, played by Nicholas Pinnock, who becomes a lawyer complaining about cases for other inmates while struggling to overturn his own life sentence for a felony that he did not commit. His quest for freedom is driven by his desperate desire to return to the family he loves – his estranged wife and daughter – and reclaim the life that was stolen from him. For Life also examines the flaws and challenges in our criminal and legal systems.
