You can now easily calibrate your DM170 and DM240 monitors with an i1D3 OEM colorimeter.
Flanders Scientific has made calibration of its DM170 and DM 240 monitors more affordable as they now support Direct Linking Volumetric AutoCal to the X-Rite i1D3 OEM colorimeter, which is priced at $ 280.
Automatic calibration for the DM series was introduced last year and supports several high-end colorimeters. The colorimeters allow users to view various matrices to be written to flash memory, where the monitor can then access the matrix to ensure an accurate display during the automatic calculation.
To start the calibration, all you have to do is plug the i1D3 into the monitor and select it GaiaColor AutoCal from the menu. Calibration does the rest and the color space selection should be completed in about 15 minutes.
Take a look at the overview below.
This is good news for DM owners. Flanders Scientific says that In cooperation with xRite, a new firmware build is available for the i1D3-OEM, with which up to 18 separate user-defined display matrices can be saved directly in the memory of the probe.
Flanders Scientific has also published a handy FAQ that will delete all firmware updates for previous i1D3 owners. You can read them below.
Which xRite probes are compatible?
All xRite i1D3 OEM color measuring devices purchased from FSI starting today will be equipped with this new firmware build and the corresponding display matrices.
Can my i1 be updated?
Working with xRite, we have been authorized to update all i1D3 OEM probes previously sold by FSI to this latest firmware version. This is only possible at our authorized locations in Atlanta, Lier (Belgium) and Shenzhen. If you did not purchase your i1D3-OEM from FSI, we will not be able to update your probe. When you send in your probe, we will also save the corresponding matrices for your specific i1D3 using our spectroradiometers as a reference. There is no charge for the update. As with all other compatible probes, there are no fees for creating the display-specific matrix. You only pay for shipping!
Will my probe still work with third party software?
Yes, the firmware update and all matrices stored by FSI have no influence on the normal functionality of the i1D3-OEM. We recommend that you use the probe with either CalMAN or ColourSpace to validate your AutoCal results upon completion. When you order your probe or send it in for an update, please indicate which other software you may be using your probe with so that we can provide you with copies of the matrix files that you can import into this software for validation and not use the hardware-based implementation of custom matrices for the i1D3.
Which monitors are compatible?
All DM170 and DM240 with firmware version 2.0.00-2313 and higher support the direct connection of the i1D3 OEM colorimeter. I1D3 support for the DM250 will be released at a later date.
