Since our creation in March 2018, TheCherryPicks.com has strived to raise diverse and under-represented voices in celebrating female and film directors and actresses. We recognized the need for a space where womxn can read reviews from a female perspective, and the site has gradually built an audience and attracted more female reviewers. We’ve partnered with key film festivals such as the SXSW, Savannah and Bentonville International Film Festivals to showcase featured filmmakers, both editorial and on social media. Choice of cherries also launched the IG Live CherryChat series last year to deliver relevant programming amid the pandemic, as we’ve seen our audiences increasingly crave fun, ambitious, and authentic content. CherryChat has interviewed a range of actors, spanning multiple levels of experience and stardom.
Additionally, CherryPop, an original podcast, was launched to explore the portrayal of sexuality, intimacy, and beauty that has had a cultural impact on women of all ages and gender expressions. The podcast will begin a second season in April 2021. As an organization seeking to make positive changes in our world, we have partnered with influential organizations to help spread and celebrate our success, including NYWIFT, Women’s Voices, UConn and Women In Media.
“Cinema Woman is a platform for emerging filmmakers identifying women and non-binary, ”said Rebecca Martin, Founder / Editor of Cinema Woman. “To support these filmmakers, we showcase their short films, provide education through feature films with womxn and non-binary in the film, and provide mentorship between seasoned and emerging filmmakers. We express the need for women, women of color and LGBTQ representation on screen and behind the lens.We believe that together we can change the industry for the better, and we are delighted to collaborate with Choice of cherries to raise those essential voices. “
As the #MeToo and #TimesUp movements encourage change in the film industry, a growing number of avenues that give womxn the space to thrive and succeed embrace a range of voices. So our cultural significance and power are also increasing. As we grow, our audience grows. As the appetite for female content grows in demand, we are thrilled and honored to serve it.
