Eric Cantona ‘Magic 7’ film launched by producer ‘Intouchables’ – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: European producer and sales company Anton kicks off worldwide sales of finished Eric Cantona film Magic 7 of Heartbreaker, The Untouchables and Stalin’s death Quad Productions producer Nicolas Duval Adassovsky.

The family film will see former Manchester United legend Cantona play ‘Eric’, a former football star and now coach of a Chinese league team, who finds himself in a small village after being falsely accused of bribery. When a young boy saves him from imminent death in the desert, he asks that Eric train the local team in exchange. At first only concerned with safeguarding his reputation, Eric slowly returns and rediscovers his passion for football thanks to the young players he guides to a junior cup final.

Steve Weiz directs the film in Mandarin (with English subtitles), which also stars Chinese actress Jingjing Qu, known for her box office success The Wandering Earth.

The Chinese partners of the project under the radar are Eagle Media, Mokexing and Maoyan.

Elizabeth and Finding Eric actor Cantona last starred in a feature film three years ago, the Toronto Film Festival drama Ulysses and Mona. Magic 7 is one of the few French football films.

Anton will sell the film during the Hong Kong International Film and Television Market this week (Filmart). As we revealed last month, the company’s recent sales headlines also include the dystopian sci-fi Eddie Marsan. Vesper seeds.
