Will the superhero bubble burst?
When sitting with Howard Stern this weekEmily Blunt suppressed rumors that she and her husband John Krasinski would face each other in a game Fantastic Four Restart. She told Stern that superhero films “don’t play” [her] Alley.”
She continues, “This is fan casting. Nobody got a call … They’re just people saying, ‘Wouldn’t that be great?'”
Blunt didn’t stop there, making sure people knew that she didn’t believe these films or roles were below her, but that she wasn’t sure the genre might still be fresh.
“I am in love Ironman and when I was offered Black widowI was obsessed with Ironman. I wanted to work with Robert Downey Jr. It would have been great, “said Blunt.” But I don’t know if superhero films are for me. You are not in my alley. I do not like her. I really don’t. ”
She continued, “It’s exhausted.”
We wondered if the genre wasn’t overdone until January.
Blunt said, “We’re flooded – it’s not just all the movies, it’s the endless TV shows too. It’s not to say that I never want to play one, it just has to be something so cool and like a really cool character , and then I would be interested. ”
It’s hard not to disagree with Blunt on this. While it was mediocre Gulliver’s Travels that kept her from playing Black Widow, and after she was offered the role, she took many risks and let her acting muscles flex in big and small strokes. Your work in A quiet place and Edge of tomorrow shows that she can work in blockbusters as well as in India.
And it seems like we’ve had a lot of superhero content lately. While the movies and shows haven’t suffered from ratings and box office earnings, I wonder how many times we can reinvent the wheel without it getting tired and overused.
I look forward to whatever Blunt does next. I hope Hollywood emphasizes more original films and stories, and that more actors like Blunt take risks in those roles.
