Discovery ‘stops production following Covid Contact – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: As coronavirus infections rise again in and around Toronto, Discovery of Star Trek pressed the pause button during production.

Months after filming its fourth season, the Sonequa Martin-Green-led series shut down for the next two weeks due to contact a little too close for the comfort of CBS Studios. As a precaution, production officially stopped yesterday. Which means, now, Discovery is designed to rekindle lights and phasers around May 6th.

The decision to stop production came soon after an individual in Zone A Discovery came nearby earlier this week with someone who had tested positive for Covid-19.

The infected person was unrelated to the show and the contact happened away from the set of Discovery Pinewood Studios, I hear. The case was detected through the widely used contact tracing system in Canada’s largest city and elsewhere in the province of Ontario.

Los Angeles on-premises TV returns to pre-pandemic levels, but features and ads lag behind, according to FilmLA

The individual in zone A has now been quarantined for 14 days.

The fact that the individual in zone A never returned after contact with the person infected with the coronavirus is extremely important. Under Covid security protocols, Zone A refers to the main distribution and production players in direct contact with them

CBS Studios did not comment on the situation when Deadline contacted the unit owned by ViacomCBS.

The rest of DiscoveryThe production of nearly 80 people are not required to quarantine themselves under local health guidelines, but the point is Toronto is basically under lock and key and Covid key right now anyway.

Although they also film in Toronto, other Trekverse series New strange worlds as good as Thesilenceofthelambs spin off Clarice are not affected by the Discovery to close. For some reason, the other two shows were shot at other TO facilities by their cousin Secret Hideout.

While production has been able to continue overall, most businesses and residents of Toronto have been stranded again in the past two weeks as Covid cases have risen sharply. Across Ontario, there were 4,505 new infections in the past 24 hours, with Toronto responsible for most of these cases. With intensive care units overwhelmed, today was the third highest daily case period in Ontario since the pandemic began over a year ago.

Packaged production in Toronto in June, Star Trek: Discovery Season 4 is slated to launch on Paramount + in the fourth quarter of 2021.
