“And in the midst of this seismic shift, just as many of you have met the moment artistically, our Guild has done the same,” he continued. “We have overcome the arduous task of getting our industry back to work and, most importantly, getting back to work safely. And in this transition of computation, our guild has been brought together to listen, learn, and often unlearn, as we move forward with a commitment to always do better.

Schlamme added: “These remarkable feats, and so many others, like the revolutionary new contract negotiations concluded last March, could not be achieved without the extraordinary staff of the Guild, led by the wisdom of our National Executive Director Russ Hollander. , and all of our members are actively engaged in our union through our board of directors, councils and committees. It is this support system of passionate and insightful individuals that makes this guild exceptional. And we couldn’t be more thrilled to honor a few of these members tonight.

Schlamme also noted that a management team stands behind each honored director tonight, and that they also share these awards. “I also want to take a moment to pay tribute to our leadership teams – assistant directors, unit production directors, associate directors, stage directors and production associates. Traditionally, at these awards, the entire team shares the stage when a director’s name is called out. And nothing reflects the concept of family more to me than this visual moment. Unfortunately, this virtual format limits our ability to do so. But be aware that when we cut the live photos of each nominee, they represent the hard work of the whole team. “
