David Duchovny once considered turning down the Fox pilot – Deadline

Almost 30 years after its debut, The X-Files and her star David Duchnovy maintain a die-hard fan base. But once upon a time, Duchovny was not entirely convinced that the series would be a success.

In Wednesday’s episode of the Literally! With the Rob Lowe podcast, the actor admitted that he had previously considered turning down the pilot of the sci-fi drama. “I had… a few scenes in this movie of the week, and he was a director that I was friends with, and I was going to have to … get out of this part to do The X-Files pilot, ”the actor told Lowe. “I said to my agents, ‘I don’t want to do this. You know, she’s a friend, and I don’t want to retire. ”

At the time, Duchnovy said he thought: “X-Files, It’s about aliens. How long can this last? He’s a good pilot but you’re going to see aliens or [not]. “

“I wasn’t interested in conspiracy theories,” he added, “and I was perfectly prepared to just say, ‘I’m going to have to pass this pilot on, because I said I would do this. other project. ‘”

Fortunately, Duchovny’s agents finally convinced him that refusing the pilot was not the right decision. “It’s scary to think again, if you didn’t open that door, or if you took the left instead of the right. It’s like none of this is going to happen, ”he said of his career. “You talk about stupid actors… well, that was me.

In conversation with Duchovny, Lowe wondered, another X-Files film be possible? “It’s really a Fox question,” he said. “You know, they’re weird because it’s… expensive property and you think, why don’t you try to make another one?” Then I do not know.

Earlier in the podcast, Duchovny developed his aversion to conspiracy theories, which he considers “dangerous,” noting that due to his role in The X-Files, he was often approached by fans with their own theories. “There were a few years there where people would ask me about lizards, and I had no idea that was something important… I would sign someone’s thing and they would say: ‘Oh, so and so reptilian or a lizard,’ and I’d say, ‘Yeah? Uh, very good, ”he recalls. “This kind of thing… happened all the time and I was like, ‘What’s wrong with people?’ You know? It didn’t make sense to me.

Created by Chris Carter, The X-Files centered on Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), FBI agents investigating the Strange and Unexplained, with hidden forces working to hamper their efforts.

Premiering on Fox in September 1993, the show ran for nine seasons, winning Duchovny the Golden Globe for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama in 1997. Two feature films, including The X-Files (1998) and The X-Files: I want to believe (2008), he also returned with a two-season revival in 2016.
