Lately, comedians have been a topic of discussion for mostly negative reasons. Recently, Daniel Fernandes was also arrested for joking about the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. Not only that, he was even factually incorrect in saying that Rhea Chakraborty had been acquitted of all charges.
On January 11, Daniel’s video was released, which covered Sushant’s death, the media trials and Rhea. As expected, the video has been reported by several users to poke fun at such a sensitive issue. Finally, after all the negative reactions, the comedian apologized.
Daniel Fernandes mentioned that he apologized for making a factual error in saying that Rhea Chakraborty had been acquitted of all charges.
The statement released by Daniel Fernandes reads: “My recent stand-up video seems to have offended many fans of the late Sushant Singh Rajput, many of whom pointed out that an apology was in order and I agree! As a comedian, my only intention is always to entertain you and make you laugh, but sometimes in this effort, it is possible that I might evoke an unfavorable response.
That being said, I would like to address my mistake. Towards the end of this piece, I said that Rhea had been acquitted of her charges. This is factually incorrect. She was released on bail. For some strange reason, I used the word “acquitted” by mistake on the Pune show. It’s certainly not how I wrote it or played it elsewhere. I take that again and I apologize to all those whose feelings may have been hurt. Also, due to an edit oversight, one of my favorite jokes from this set was left out of the final cut. To fix this, I’ll upload a new version of this video with this joke next week.
I stand by everything I have said.
