The Universal Studios tram tour took a bitter turn when Dan Levy’s presenter-in-training Phoby shared her thoughts during a Saturday Night Live sketch.
Located in the Southern California Theme Park, the SNL sketch centered on the backlot tour which reopens after an extended closure. However, the tram ride is far from smooth as Phoby (Levy) gives its own touch to traditional sightseeing sites.
“The fan theory is that Doc prepared Marty to assault him,” Levy says as the tram passes by. Back to the future facade. “That’s why he’s going back to the future, to stop him from assaulting Marty.”
From his first comments, Phoby’s supervisor (Mikey Day) tells him to tone it down. Phoby remains silent, that is, until the tram passes other attractions, including the bicycles used in AND
“ET looks like a backpack that has come to life,” says Phoby.
Levy’s character continues to talk about what turns him off, other conspiracy theories, and inappropriate touring topics along the way. However, his attention is diverted when an old friend appears.
Bowen Yang, dressed as Despicable Me‘s Gru, comes on the tram for an appearance. Once again, everything seems to be going well until Phoby recognizes her old friend.
“You mean contemptible, he got on coke and ditched me for all his coke-headed friends,” Levy’s character says, ending the tour.
