Surpassing all post-lockdown Hindi and English films, Godzilla vs Kong continues to do well in India. Although the film does not collect much in the Hindi market, the contribution in South India is so good that it alone gives producers excellent numbers.
The latest Warner Bros. biggie collected 6.51 crore in his second race of the weekend, bringing the total to 46.58 crore. Now that is an unimaginable total considering the circumstances under which it was released in Indian theaters.
The film has also surpassed the collections of several major Hollywood films in India and continues to do so. Earlier we reported on how Godzilla vs Kong came across movies like Skyfall (30 crores), The Dark Knight Rises (33 crores), Justice League (35 crores), Black Panther (38 crores) and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (40 crores). Now the latest is that it has topped the number of Frozen 2 (44 crore) and Annabelle: Creation (44.50 crore) as well.
With this achievement, Godzilla vs Kong entered the list of top 30 Hollywood wholesalers in India. The film’s next targets are The Amazing Spiderman (48.25 crore), Aladdin (50 crore) and Iron Man 3 (50.50 crore).
Meanwhile, the film is doing well in the United States as well. After the first 5 days run, Godzilla vs Kong put together $ 48.5 million. It’s easily the biggest opening weekend collection for the U.S. box office during the COVID situation.
Meanwhile, director Adam Wingard recently opened up about his initial reaction to Warner Bros. announcing a hybrid release plan for its slate. He said it hurt him at first.
In an interview with Deadline, Adam Wingard said, “If you had asked me in December, that would have been a different answer. The day HBO Max surprised us all was December 3, my birthday. Here I am, walking out of town to celebrate, and I get a text from my agent, Dan Rabinow. Immediately Coming: The announcement that all WarnerMedia titles are going to HBO Max. I thought to myself, “What the hell is this?” “
Godzilla vs Kong features Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown and Rebecca Hall in the lead roles.
