Chinaka Hodge has been appointed editor-in-chief of the Stone heart series, from Marvel and Disney +, Deadline can confirm.
With Dominique Thorne (Judas and the Black Messiah), the show centers on teenage Riri Williams, a genius inventor, who creates the most advanced armor since Iron Man.
The character, created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato, was first introduced in Marvel comics in 2016. Development on the Stone heart The series was first announced in December, during Disney’s Investor Day presentation.
Hodge has already written about Apple Amazing stories restart, with the adaptation of TNT by Bong Joon Ho’s Snowpiercer. Also known for her work as a poet, writer and educator, she has so far published two collections of poetry (For girls with hips: poems and writings collected and Dated Emcees) and two pieces, entitled In pursuit of Mehserle and Mirrors in every corner. She is notably a founding member of the hip hop ensemble The Getback, with SnowpiercerDaveed Diggs and Rafael Casal.
While WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier have already had rocket debuts on Disney +, there are many more Marvel series in the pipeline to the streamer, including Loki, which debuts in June. Other Disney + / Marvel shows that will focus on women of color include Ms. Marvel, with Iman Vellani and Tatiana Maslany with She-Hulk.
