Violation of social distancing standards, ‘abhisekham’ milk (pouring milk) on their hero’s cutout erected outside the theater, drumming and dancing by fans, and a fine on a theater marked the exit of Vijay with “Master” Wednesday.

City police fined the Kasi theater 5,000 rupees for admitting more than 50 percent of the seating capacity, in violation of the government’s order.

The first show in theaters started at 4 a.m. and Vijay fans had gathered in large numbers to see the movie “Day One, First Show”.

Many moviegoers weren’t wearing masks while watching the movie and social distancing went for a six.

Director Lokesh Kanakaraj, actor Malavika Mohanan, music director Anirudh Ravichander and others watched the film at the Rohini Theater.

The buzz for the film has been high since the start of filming, which is witnessing a face-to-face between Thalapathy Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi, two actors followed by a mega fan. Images of crowds coming out to watch the film in theaters have gone viral in recent days.

Led by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Master also features Malavika Mohanan, Arjun Das, Andrea Jeremiah and Shanthanu Bhagyaraj in key roles.

The directors also have plans to release the Hindi-dubbed film on January 14 in theaters across northern India.
