After nearly 40 years, the Casting Society of America is opening its membership to commercial casting directors. Until now, membership has been restricted to casting professionals involved in film, television, live theater, reality and short series.
“Commercial casting directors apply their craft to a hard-hitting form of storytelling, and we know their insight and experience will add extra depth to the Casting Society of America membership,” said Zora DeHorter and Caitlin Jones, vice – CSA communications chairs and co-chairs of its new trade committee. “The artistic merit of our sales colleagues helps advance CSA’s mission to defend and promote the casting profession in all its forms.

CSA said its new commercial committee has compiled a database of established commercial casting directors across the country and has started targeted outreach to them to invite them to join the company. Part of their outreach is guiding potential applicants through the application process. The committee will also plan specific business initiatives later this year.
The prerequisites for membership of commercial casting professionals are the same as those of theater members; 75 weeks worked in two years as associate casting directors and 100 weeks over five years for casting directors. Commercial work can be counted in these weeks, allowing commercial casting directors to apply for ASC membership if they are only doing commercials, or a candidate can use commercial weeks with their work in. cinema, television, reality and theater to qualify.
The new CSA trade committee includes Alex Amsellem, Terry Berland, Danielle Demchick, Rikki Gimelstob, Katie Griffin, Sherrie Henderson, Caitlin Jones and Patti Kalles. Rebecca LaGore, Liz Lewis, Angela Mickey, Erica Palgon, Nina Pratt, Rachel Reiss, Michael Sanford and Alison Twardziak.
Founded in 1982, CSA currently has nearly 1,000 members and its stated goal is to establish a recognized standard of professionalism in casting and to provide its members with a supportive organization to pursue their goals and protect their common interests.
