Casa Bonita Restaurant Described in South Park Bankruptcy Files – Deadline

Casa Bonita, Denver’s beloved restaurant featured in a 2003 episode of South Park, filed for bankruptcy, according to documents reviewed by Colorado 9news.

The Mexican restaurant was forced to close in March 2020, following the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic – and since then it has remained closed.

In the South Park Episode written and directed by show co-creator Trey Parker, Casa Bonita hosts Kyle (co-creator Matt Stone )’s birthday, as Cartman (Parker) attempts to coordinate Butters’ disappearance. Parker and Stone both grew up in Colorado and are said to have based the episode on their memories of going to Casa Bonita as children.

Serving the Denver area for 46 years, Casa Bonita is also known for its 30 foot waterfall, arcade and welcoming atmosphere.

The owners of Casa Bonita, Summit Family Restaurants, reportedly filed for Chapter 11 on April 6, which means they are allowed to come up with a restructuring and financial reorganization plan, in order to keep their business afloat.

While the restaurant’s website says it will “reopen soon,” some of its customers have expressed doubts, setting up a GoFundMe page to ensure that “the cultural and historical icon” and “the vibrant part of the landscape of the Colorado ”will not go away. Created by Andrew Novick, the “SAVE CASA BONITA” campaign brought in $ 17,590 of its goal of $ 100,000.
