American Idol Runner-up Caleb Kennedy was kicked out of season 19 after video insensitive to racism surfaced online, in which he is seated across from someone who appears to be wearing a Ku Klux Klan balaclava.
The 16-year-old crooner took to Instagram on Wednesday to break the news to his fans.
“Hey all of you, it’s gonna be a bit of a surprise but I won’t be sure American Idol,he wrote. “There was a video that surfaced on the internet and it showed actions that weren’t meant to be taken that way. I was younger and I wasn’t thinking about actions, but it wasn’t is not an excuse. I mean sorry to all my fans and everyone I have let down. I am going to take some time off social media to improve myself, but in saying this I know that it hurt and disappointed a lot of people and caused people to lose respect for me. I’m so sorry! I pray that one day I will be able to regain your trust in who I am and have your respect! Thank you for putting up with me. “
Prior to his elimination, Kennedy was in the Top 5 on Idol. The finalists he competed with in the final season of the singing competition were Casey Bishop, Grace Kinstler, Chayce Beckham and Willie Spence.
Kennedy isn’t the first controversy to emerge from the show’s 19th season, however. In April, candidate Cecil Ray Baker was arrested for ‘home burglary’ and was also charged with assaulting his ex-girlfriend.
