Fox has made its new drama series pickup decisions for the 2021-2021 season, with two projects emerging from the network’s recently adopted direct-to-series development model involving the opening of a writers’ room, Our kind of people and Monarch, and two 2020 pilots whose production had been driven by the pandemic, The great leap and The cleaning lady.
That leaves two more one-hour pilots from 2020, Blood relative and The Gooniestheme Project of reconstruction of the film. Both receive a pass.
As Deadline reported earlier this week, The Film Reenactment Project – formerly known as Untitled The Goonies Reenactment Project, is about a woman helping three college students who do a shot-for-shot remake of The Goonies – played a little too young for Fox.
Fox 2021 Series and Pilot Orders
Warner Bros TV and Amblin TV, who are behind the project, plan to buy it elsewhere. WBTV’s brother HBO Max would be a logical place to launch as the streamer mounted an original YA slate and also The Goonies on the service as part of the Warner Bros. Library.
The police drama based on genetic genealogy Blood related, with Melissa Leo and Tate Donovan, came solid but didn’t make the cut as Fox Brass went with the projects they felt were stronger and stronger besides being diverse.
On the comedy side, Fox has only one pilot Swivel exceptional. As we reported, it looks good and should get a stock pickup.
