Bhor led by Kamakhya Narayan Singh talks about women’s empowerment: Bollywood News

The film features strong undertones of women’s empowerment and highlights the sanitation challenges of rural India, simultaneously offering an interesting take on the caste system. Director Kamakhya Narayan Singh recounts: “As a filmmaker and social work (education) student, I have had the chance to travel around the world and to India. I have had the chance to interact with people from Indigenous cultures. They have a different understanding of society – they may be poor, but they are happy, there are conflicts but they are not complicated. “

In order to make the film as realistic as possible, there were long workshops for two months and the costumes shown in the film belong to people from the community.

He added: “‘Bhor takes care of one of these communities called the’ Musahars’ of Bihar. They are simple people and our story tells how they react to the modern campaign on sanitation and toilets in India. We continually made an effort to keep performing and feeling as real as possible, to portray the reality of their life “

Producer AK Singh shares, “I don’t have a film background but always wanted to make a movie. I spent all my childhood in rural areas. I was looking for a script that I would like to produce and when Bhor came to me it took me to my village where the Bhusars and the Thakurs lived and how they lived. It was a very realistic scenario and that’s why I wanted to do it. “

The film has received critical acclaim at over thirty film festivals, including the ‘Cairo International Film Festival’, ‘International Film Festival of India’ (GOA), Indo – Berlin Film Week (Berlin), Melbourne India Film Festival, Australia. The film also won the Best Director award at the Ottawa Indian Film Festival and two awards at the Caleidoscope Indian Film Festival in Boston.

The film revolves around Budhni, a girl from the Musahar community in Bihar who dreams of continuing her education despite her marriage below the legal age and how she struggles against all odds to build a sanitation toilet. The film has an ensemble cast by Nalneesh Neel, Devesh Rajan, Saveri Sree Gaur and Punya Prasun Bajpai. Bhor is produced by AK Singh of Gyanesh Films and is directed by Kamakhya Narayan Singh.
