EXCLUSIVE: Paris-based sales company Reel Suspects won worldwide sales, excluding Russia, of Uldus Bakhtiozina’s feature debut Scaling of Tzarevna, which was shortlisted for this year’s Berlinale Forum program.
Bakhtiozina is an internationally renowned artist who in 2015 became the first Russian speaker to give a TED talk. She has exhibited works all over the world.
This is his first feature film. It follows a fishmonger who, after being given tea by a strange old woman, finds that her sleep turns into a fairy tale, during which she must compete to become the daughter of a tsar.
“I am extremely proud to be working on Uldus’ first feature film. I felt in love with the film at first sight. It’s a powerful cinematic work that reminds me of Ron Fricke’s Baraka or the works of Matthew Barney, with a more social and political context, ”said Matteo Lovadina, CEO of Reel Suspects. “We are also happy to strengthen our relationship with Russian producers, who are proving to be truly productive and creative in this time of pandemic.”
