‘Batwoman’ EP teases ‘Bumpy Road’ for Kate Kane and others – Deadline

At a WonderCon @ Home panel on Saturday, Batwoman Showrunner Caroline Dries has appeared with five of the show’s stars, to tease what’s to come in the rest of Season 2.

In a conversation with TVLine’s Keishca Hatchett, Dries first discussed the recent reappearance of vigilante Kate Kane. Leading the cast as Kane in season 1, Ruby Rose then left the CW series. Actress Wallis Day was recently named to replace her – and will play a “modified” version of the character. While BatwomanAudiences have already been told that Kane is, in fact, alive, drama is sure to ensue when the news finally reaches the characters on the show.

“ There’s this tragic irony going on, where our characters are desperately looking for Kate, and now they believe she’s dead, and as they move on with their lives, the audience is made aware of this huge amount of information that Kate is actually alive. . So moving forward, Kate is on a bumpy road, ”Dries said. “That’s all I’m going to tease, and our characters, of course, will end up looping in this huge news. But it’s pure drama from now on, and it will directly affect each character, just as her demise affected each character differently.

Former ‘Batwoman’ star Ruby Rose praises Wallis Days’ overhaul as Kate Kane:

Appearing alongside Dries and his co-stars Javicia Leslie, Rachel Skarsten, Meagan Tandy and Nicole Kong was Camrus Johnson. The actor, who plays Luke Fox, teased an exciting guest star to soon make an appearance on the show. “There is another guest star that Luke is related to – that’s all I can say – that excites me,” he said. “We talked about it a lot at the start of the season. I had no idea when that was coming, and if you like Julia Pennyworth, who is truly the only guest star to date that has been hooked up to Luke, I think people are going to really like the next one.

Starring since the start of this season as Ryan Wilder – the vigilante who took on the role of Batwoman, in Kane’s absence – Leslie reflected on the complicated relationship between Ryan and Angelique (Bevan Bru). Is there a world, Hatchett wondered, where the couple could pull themselves together? “I don’t think it’s a story that will ever really be made because Ryan doesn’t really have roots in his childhood. Her only anchor was her foster mom, and she’s dead, and her only other anchor is Angelica, ”Leslie said. “So I think there will always be empathy for this relationship and for the dynamics of the other. But I think most of all, Ryan is in a place where she wants to do better. She’s never really been the wrong person, but she wants to make sure she takes this opportunity and she’s moving forward with her life.

Afterwards, the actress brought up the idea that there might be other romantic perspectives for Wilder to explore, whether in the future or in the near future. “I’m here for everything writers create. [But] I think we’re in this weird space right now with the pandemic where we’re limited by what we can play in this world, honestly, ”Leslie said. “I know that probably affected the storylines, when it comes to being able to switch romantic characters.”

Before committing to BatwomanAnecdotes with the cast, Dries teased an upcoming showdown between Leslie’s Batwoman and the show’s new villain, Black Mask. (It was recently announced that Peter Outerbridge will be playing the role). After trapping Angelique in her criminal enterprises, Batwoman will face a difficult scenario. “How does she relieve her friend of her horrible situation? the EP wondered. “She sort of becomes Black Mask’s No.1 Enemy.”

Produced by Berlanti Productions, in association with Warner Bros. Television, Batwoman returns for its ninth episode of Season 2 on Sunday. The superhero drama has already been renewed for a third season.
