Veteran singer-songwriter Bappi Lahiri has been hospitalized after testing positive for Covid-19, his daughter Rema Lahiri Bansal confirmed Thursday.
Rema released a statement which read: “Bappi Da has used immense precautions but has been detected with mild Covid symptoms. He was admitted into the care of Dr Udwadia at Breach Candy Hospital on a purely preventive basis due to his age. He will be fine and be home soon. Thank you for always keeping it in your prayers.
Lahiri, affectionately known as Bappi da by fans and colleagues alike, is widely regarded as the king of Bollywood disco, having pioneered the advent of the disco genre of music in Hindi films of the 80s and 90.
His greatest hits as a composer include soundtracks from films like “Disco Dancer”, “Namak Halaal”, “Dance Dance”, Sharaabi “,” Saaheb “,” Himmatwala “,” Wardat “and” Chalte Chalte “. In 2011, he made a comeback as a singer with the hit song “Ooh lala la” in the movie “The Dirty Picture”.
