Panasonic GH5S shooters will soon receive an external ProRes RAW option through Atomos.
Following the release of a firmware update by Panasonic that enables external RAW recording on the GH5S via the HDMI connection, Atomos announced that it would develop a software update with which its Ninja V recorders could capture ProRes RAW from the cameras can.
This is exciting news for those who shoot with the GH5S as the RAW codec improves color grading workflows. The Atomos press release highlighted that Atomos support Nina V and Ninja V + 4K DCI 60p and 3.7K 60p anamorphic.
It is unclear when the firmware will be released, but we are sure it will be soon.
However, Blackmagic also offers BRAW recordings through its Video Assist recorders for Panasonic cameras. It will be interesting to see if the company supports the GH5S. In that case, both Atomos and Blackmagic may have support for the upcoming GH6 when it is announced.
