The second wave of the coronavirus pandemic has hit the film industry hard and the government of Maharashtra has also imposed a lockdown to flatten the curve again. Several projects, including Apne 2, which were supposed to be happening now, have now been postponed.
Filmmaker Anil Sharma announced Apne 2 last year, which will keep the original 2007 film stars Dharmendra, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol in the lead. The film was supposed to be released on Diwali but now filming has been postponed.
The filmmaker has given up postponing the shooting of the film. Speaking to Times Of India, the filmmaker revealed that since they haven’t even started shooting the film, there’s no point in hanging on to Diwali’s planned release.
Initially, the team was supposed to shoot through Punjab, but now plans to start the first program in London in July. The schedule will be 45 days in London, then they are expected to return to the Punjab and Mumbai, according to the report.
Anil Sharma also said the decision to postpone filming was made due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the next two weeks were crucial for everyone. As theaters will also only reopen after a few months, there is no point in finishing the movie now. The filmmaker further stated that the film’s release on schedule is not important, but Dharmendra’s health is.
Previously, Bobby Deol opened up about the idea in a line behind Apne 2. Speaking to BollywoodLife, the actor said, “There’s definitely a one-liner, and we’re working on it. So the work goes on every day, and we’re just waiting for Anilji (director Anil Sharma, who also directed the first part and has a long-standing relationship with the Deols, having made several big hits with them, including Hukumat, Elaan-E-Jung, Farishtay with Dharmendra, besides directing the all-time blockbuster, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, with Sunny Deol) to prepare, and now let’s see.
