Anthony Hopkins posts video reaction to surprise Best Actor Oscar, pays tribute to Chadwick Boseman – Deadline

Anthony Hopkins paid tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman in his first reaction to his Oscar success last night, where the actor won his second Oscar and the first since his performance in 1992 pic Thesilenceofthelambs.

The father The star spoke in a video posted to his Instagram page (see below) from his homeland of Wales, where he presumably woke up to hear the news of his unexpected victory in the Best Actor category. Earlier this morning, Hopkins called The father director Florian Zeller as the latter appeared on Radio 4 to discuss the film’s success, with the director taking the best adapted screenplay last night for the screenplay he co-wrote with Christopher Hampton.

Hopkins, 83, became the oldest Oscar winner for Best Actor, overtaking Christopher Plummer who was 82 when he won Beginners in 2011. Hopkins did not appear at the ceremony, either in person or on video.

In his Instagram post, he also thanked Sony Pictures Classics, Florian Zeller, UTA, Jeremy Barber, Christine Crais, Mitch Smelkinson, Juan Miguel Arias, Tara Arroyave, my wife and my family.

“Here I am in my hometown of Wales. At 83, I didn’t expect to receive this award, I really didn’t, ”Hopkins said in the video. “I am very grateful to the academy – thank you. I want to pay tribute to Chadwick Boseman, who was taken from us far too soon. Again, thank you very much. I really didn’t expect this, I feel very privileged and honored, thank you.
