Animated film based on Peeps Candy in the works of Wonder Street – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: Famous Peeps Easter Candy Turns Into Animated Feature Mauritanian from producers Christine and Mark Holder of Wonder Street.

Deadline has learned that Wonder Street has acquired the film / TV rights to the marshmallow candy, with the feature being touted as being on the mind of Trolls meets Smurfs which will follow a motley group of Peeps characters who have embarked on a trip across the country to attend Peepsfest, the brand’s annual celebration in Pennsylvania. David Goldblum is writing the film and producing alongside Wonder Street.

Bethlehem, PA-based candy company Just Born, Inc. produces 2 billion Peeps candy a year and offers a wide range of adorable Peeps-themed products and merchandise.

“Peeps Chicks and Bunnies have been entrenched in American pop culture for nearly seven decades due to their instantly recognizable shapes and fan-favorite marshmallow taste, making them the perfect characters to bring to life on the big screen,” said said Keith Domalewski, director of marketing and consumer engagement at Just Born. “We hope the new Peeps movie spreads sweetness in families across the country and inspires fans to express their ‘Peepsonality’ in new ways!”

Wonder Street’s Mauritanian, published by STX, was nominated for two Golden Globes with Jodie Foster winning the award for Best Supporting Actress and Tahar Rahim earning a name for Best Actor in a Dramatic Feature. The Kevin Macdonald-directed thriller follows Nancy Hollander (Foster), who tries to do the tricky one: legally defend and portray one of the men accused of facilitating the World Trade Center attacks. The film also has five BAFTA names.

Goldblum is currently adapting three inspiring bestsellers and is going into production on a feature film he is producing alongside EP Meryl Streep. Originally from New York, he was a graduate of the UCLA MFA Screenwriting Program, recipient of UCLA / Participant Media Fellowship, a Telluride Film Festival Film Lab Fellow, recipient of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences Fellowship and was nominated for the Humanitas Student Drama Prize. He is replaced by Wonder Street and lawyer Eric Feig.
