Georgia Brown, director of European originals at Amazon Studios, will become the advisory chair of the Edinburgh 2021 TV festival.
Brown is the first executive from a streaming company to hold the post, from which she will set the agenda and tone for the annual gathering of the television business in Scotland.
The festival is planning a ‘hybrid’ event in August after going fully live in 2020 due to the pandemic. A spokesperson declined to give more details on what it will involve and if any physical events will take place in Edinburgh.
Accelerating Change will be the theme of the festival, with brainstorming sessions on seismic changes in the industry, including the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic and commitments to diversity.
Brown said, “Our industry has faced one of its most difficult years and we have proven what we can overcome when we come together around a common goal.
“I look forward to working with the ETF team and my friends, colleagues and partners to put together a program to speak candidly about the challenges ahead; confront our shared responsibility in order to accelerate the change necessary to rebuild, reshape and sustain our industry. “
Executive President Fatima Salaria added, “In Georgia, we not only have, for the first time, someone from a streamer as our advisory chair, but we have a champion of innovative creativity and someone who recognizes the opportunities for change on television. “
