Rohit Shetty’s crime drama Sooryavanshi, starring Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, is one of the most anticipated films. The film has been postponed several times due to the coronavirus pandemic. A latest report claims the film is set for release on August 15, and Reliance Entertainment CEO Shibasish Sarkar is talking about the update.
Sooryavanshi was scheduled for release on April 30 of this year. However, the directors have postponed the film’s release indefinitely due to the increase in coronavirus cases in Maharashtra. The decision came a day later as the government of Maharashtra announced a nighttime curfew and weekend lockdown to curb the increase in COVID-19 cases in the state.
Since then, rumors have suggested that the Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif star will be released on August 15th. However, Reliance Entertainment CEO Shibasish Sarkar debunked these rumors. Speaking to SpotboyE, Sarkar said, “In the past 18 months, I’m supposed to have released Sooryavanshi at least ten times. Rohit Shetty turns Khatron Ke Khiladi outside of India. Once he returns to India, we will sit down together and discuss the release.
According to his statement, the release date for Rohit Shetty’s crime drama Sooryavanshi is undecided. It should also be noted that there is no clarity on the government’s position regarding the reopening of cinemas. Even if theaters were to open in July, bringing audiences back to theaters won’t be an easy task.
Thus, several filmmakers, including Rohit Shetty, have adopted the wait-and-see policy for the moment.
Produced by Reliance Entertainment, Sooryavanshi stars Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles. Ajay Devgn and Ranveer Singh will play key roles, while Rohit Shetty aimed to complete his crime scene which began with Singham in 2011, followed by Singham Returns (2014) and Simmba (2018).
