Yash The Chopra Saathi initiative aims to provide support to workers affected by the pandemic in our industry that we need to urgently focus on.

The Bollywood industry is largely shut down at the moment as the country experiences a devastating wave of the virus. Cases have been rising steadily since early March and yesterday, for the second time this year, the country reported more than 400,000 daily new cases of the disease, in addition to 3,982 deaths.

Earlier this week, filmmaker Chopra wrote to local and state authorities asking if Yash Raj could buy tens of thousands of vaccines to immunize workers in the industry. The company also said it would cover expenses related to workers receiving the vaccine.

A letter to the Federation of Film Workers of West India (FWICE), seen by Deadline, said: “With the film industry going through an unprecedented period, there is an urgent need to restart as soon as possible so that thousands of workers can start earning their livelihood and protect their families. Yash Raj Films, through The Yash The Chopra Foundation wishes to provide support in this regard. We have sent a request to the Honorable Chief Minister of Maharashtra to allocate and allow us to purchase COVID-19 vaccines for 30,000 registered workers, who are members of the Film Industry Federation in Mumbai in earlier.

The company added: “The Yash The Chopra Foundation will also cover all other costs associated with the vaccination of workers such as awareness raising, transporting workers and setting up all the infrastructure necessary for the vaccination program. We hope that our kind request will be approved, which will allow our members to be safe and get them back to work as soon as possible.
