The best Batman is back.
As with many millennials, my first introduction to Batman was a Saturday morning cartoon that took the Crusader very seriously. Batman: The Animated Series hugged your favorite characters and took them to the next level. It featured the entire cast of the legendary villains and painted Gotham City with Gothic wonder.
Great news – the show is coming back. Kind of.
According to Deadline, Batman: Caped Crusader, an animated series by executive producer Bruce Timm, JJ Abrams, and Matt Reevesreceived a series contract from HBO Max and Cartoon Network.
While it is not Batman: The Animated Series, Batman: Caped Crusader got Bruce Timm, one of the original minds behind the show. I am definitely excited to hear that he is involved in this. The addition of Reeves and Abrams gives the project a ton more clout.
In a collective statement, they said, “We’re thrilled to be working together to bring this character back and tell exciting new stories in Gotham City. The series will be exciting, cinematic, and reminiscent of Batman’s noir roots as it delves deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We can’t wait to share this new world. ”
This is a project everyone is looking forward to, including executives.
Tom Ascheim, President of Warner Bros. Global Kids, Young Adults and Classics, told Deadline, “It’s always fun to satisfy fans’ insatiable appetites for anything Batman has. Batman: Caped Crusader Will be entertaining for the first time and die-hard fans alike, and with such an impressive creative team, we know we have another future Batman classic in development. ”
Sam Register, President of Warner Bros. Animation (WBA) and Cartoon Network Studios, said: “Batman: The Animated Series was a masterpiece that shaped the perception of the character for a whole generation of fans. With that in mind, we’re bringing together three master storytellers in JJ, Matt and Bruce – each with their own intuitive understanding and affection for the character – to create a new series that continues in the same groundbreaking legacy. ”
