“A great outing and things will change”

Anurag Basu opens up on the use of freedom of creativity and its misuse

Filmmaker Anurag Basu says filmmakers have always explored daring subjects regardless of the medium in which they are presented. However, the line that differentiates the freedom of creativity and the abuse of that freedom must be kept in mind by filmmakers at all times.

“It’s a very thin line between using the freedom of creativity and abusing it. I also believe in OTT. Filmmakers should seek to use freedom of expression in the best possible way to tell unique stories, ”said Basu.

His new film Ludo, a dramatic anthology, was released on the OTT platform a few months ago and will soon be premiering on television.

“Many filmmakers have also explored bigger and more daring subjects on the big screen. My film “Ludo” dealt with many daring subjects and was initially intended for the big screen ”, he added.

Anurag Basu, who has directed films like Barfi! (2012), Life In A Metro (2007) and Gangster (2006), are convinced that now that theaters have reopened after the lockdown, audiences will be flocking like the good old days.

“Cinema is a community viewing experience. I’m sure audiences will return to the movies when they get back fully in action. We just need a movie that will create enough buzz to get audiences to rush to theaters. It has already started in the South, with the release of Vijay-star ‘Master’, and will soon be seen in Bollywood too. A big press release and things will change, ”he said.

Anurag Basu returned to management with Ludo after a three-year hiatus but he does not feel any difference.

“As a filmmaker, I have not missed directing and directing for the big screen. Fortunately, the reality show “Super Dancer” and the movie “Ludo” took place at the same time. I had finished shooting for “Ludo” when we were shooting for “Super Dancer”. So I never felt I was away from the big screen, ”he said.

So, what does he prefer? Directing movies or judging TV shows? Cooking! ”Anurag Basu responded on a lighter note and added,“ I love to cook. That’s what my family and my wife say! They think I’m a great chef and then a great filmmaker. cook almost every day for my family. ”

Ludo will make his first TV on Sony Max on February 28th.
