20 new deaths, 415 new positive cases – fidgetcube

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported 20 new deaths from Covid-19 and 415 new positive cases on Saturday.

As the number of hospitalizations continues to decline across the county as vaccines are distributed, the number of deaths and confirmed cases reported today may reflect delays in notification over the weekend.

Today’s figures bring the county to a total of 23,995 deaths and 1,235,422 confirmed cases.

At time of report, 379 residents are hospitalized with Covid-19; 23% of them are in intensive care.

The Covid test results have now been made available to more than 6,571,000 people, 17% of whom have tested positive. The daily rate of test positivity is 0.6%.

Six of today’s new deaths were in people over 80, with nine people aged 65 to 79 lost to the virus. Two people who died were between 50 and 64 years old, and two had died between 30 and 49 years old. One of the reported deaths was from the city of Long Beach.

On Saturday, Barbara Ferrer, director of public health, acknowledged that “we continue to see a drop in cases, hospitalizations and deaths”, at the same time calling for people to celebrate Mother’s Day as surely as possible, with the LA County “approaching the terrible milestone of 24,000 Covid-19 deaths.”

“There is always a higher risk of transmission of COVID-19 and serious health problems in unvaccinated people,” Ferrer continued. “Please get vaccinated as soon as possible. Protecting yourself and your family by getting vaccinated is the best gift you can give this Mother’s Day. “

Covid-19 vaccines are currently available at various county-run and community walk-in sites, for all people 16 years of age and older who live or work in the county. Several days ago, LA County fell into the yellow (or least restrictive) level of California’s plan to reopen.
